Prison Sentence For Drunken Driver In Pedestrian Death

The victim's family said her death was devastating.

ELMSFORD, NY — The man who was accused of hitting and killing a Bronx woman who was on her way to work in White Plains last year will be going to jail.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Wednesday in a news release that Glen Robinson, 27, of Elmsford, was sentenced to two to six years in state prison for the death of Susan Benjamin-Bailey, 57, of the Bronx, as she crossed the street in front of the Westchester County Center in August 2019.

Robinson pleaded guilty in January to second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony.

In court, Benjamin-Bailey's daughter, Kimesha Kelly, said on behalf of her family, that their mother's death was devastating to them.

Kelly said, in her statement, that Benjamin-Bailey was the center of their lives. Other family members spoke in court, and emotional impact statements from her mother and 10 siblings in Jamaica were read into the record.

Police said Robinson was driving while intoxicated just after 6:30 a.m. Aug. 24, 2019, in White Plains. Benjamin-Bailey was on her way to work and, at the intersection of Tarrytown Road and Central Avenue, was hit by Robinson in his Chevrolet Cruze as she crossed the road in front of the Westchester County Center.

Benjamin-Bailey was taken to White Plains Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Additionally, Robinson drove into the brick garden bed surrounding the clock tower, completely damaging both the structure and the clock.
