Red Flag Warnings Issued For Thursday

The combination of dry conditions and gusty winds can create critical fire weather conditions, the National Weather Service said.

Another day of low humidity and gusty winds in the Hudson Valley means another day of the possibility of brush fires Thursday. There were a couple in the region Wednesday and there could be more.

The National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings for both the lower and mid-Hudson Valley.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

There will be northwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. The relative humidity will be between 10 and 15 percent.

Gusty winds and very dry air will create conditions that may promote the rapid spread of wildfires if ignition occurs.

For Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties, the warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The winds will be from the west-northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. The relative humidity will be as low as 15 percent.

The NWS said the combination of dry weather and gusty winds will result in critical fire weather conditions.
