Sleepy Hollow Football Club plays a 10-week fall season as part of the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL). Five weeks of games are now complete and teams will take a needed rest weekend for the Columbus Day holiday weekend. WYSL games commence next Sunday October 20 for the remaining five weekends of the fall season.

Here is each of our SHFC team's results for this past week:

Boys 2011 All Reds won 2-1 at Mahopac Hurricanes. On October 20, they travel to the Rye Rebels, who they first played in week one of the season. The All Reds are working hard and are looking forward to seeing Rye again as a cohesive unit.

Girls 2011 Chaos won 6-1 over Chappaqua White at home. On October 20, they host the White Plains Black at 11am at Pocantico Hills School field. They are coached by Kevin Richardson and John Sutherland.

2010 Girls Bandits fell to Eastchester Pride 0-3 after a well fought aggressive game. The Bandits started off strong with offensive line Katie Yalmokas, Mila Gallagher and Ada Chalfy all hustling and demonstrating speed and agility. Well played first half featured Sabrina Graham in the goal defending against a penalty kick that she coolly thwarted with no hesitation. Several other saves by Graham were equally as impressive and the half ended with a 1-0 lead by Eastchester.

The second half opened with Eli Impastato in goal playing equally as well. This half featured more of a defensive play with Natalia Hargraeves, Marley De Filippis, Mackenzie Linhart and Noa Levine working hard to defend the goal against the opposing team. Lily Glynn and Marianna Patsch on offense had a few attempts taking the ball up the field, but unfortunately, the Pride continued to put on the pressure and ultimately scored two more goals in the second half.

The Bandits have no game next week due to the Columbus Day Holiday, but will return on 10/20 to play the Pelham Mayhem on their home field.

2010 Boys Shadow faced off against FC Transylvania on Sunday at Pocantico field. The boys really shined as a team to complete some amazing passes and plays. New defensive skills and strategies have recently been introduced by Coach Gary Fairley in practice, and it showed Sunday.

Elion Ashiru scored all of the goals for the Shadows, but it could not have been done without the smart skills by his teammates. Jayden Morocho displayed some impressive ball handling and had a memorable assist early in the game. Bobby Gonzalez got another goal started with a long pass from his defensive position. Nico Barbosa put up a fight to win possession of the ball many times, Jackson Pena and Luca Bruno used some nifty moves to shake free defenders near the sideline. In the backfield, Branden Wang, Duncan Barron, and Andrew Lucchetti were like fortress walls, not letting anything through.

Leo Zohar anchored the defense from his goalie position. Transylvania was able to sneak two goals past the Shadows in the first 10 minutes, but the defense and Zohar firmed up, denying FCT’s later attempts on goal.

Joaquin Rodriguez, Pena and Ashiru were able to line up many shots to keep the pressure on in the second half, though FCT’s goalie and defense corralled most of them. Ashiru scored the game's final goal shortly after halftime, adding to the Shadows lead. Zohar jumped to successfully capture a few high shots on goal, including an impressive save from a corner kick in the last 10 minutes. There were plenty of attempts to even the score, but in the end, the Shadows prevailed for a 5-2 victory.

The Shadows will meet LMFC White Devils at Pocantico field on Sunday October 20th.

2009 Girls Red Fury faced off against the Scarsdale Roma. Although they lost 1 to 7, there were several moments in the game where they shined. During the 1st half, there were multiple shots on goal by Meghan McMahon, Breanne Rodriguez, and Lauren Monachelli. Maeve Lox and Maiyumi Marcus-Kanesaka moved the ball very well in the midfield, producing excellent passes up to the front while Kate Masters and Swara Ketkar aggressively played defense. Grace McGovern was goalie and did a wonderful job preventing several shots from going in by the opposing side.

During the second half, Sam Taylor prevented a run on the goal by intercepting a pass, while Megan and Rachel Richardson took repeated shots on goal. At one point, Rachel put enormous pressure on the goalie and succeeded in securing a goal. Rose Ritz, playing goalie, did a tremendous job saving several shots from going in.

2009 Boys United, coached by John Patino, continued to successfully show effective movement on the field. It was a thrilling game to watch as the boys demonstrated teamwork and great effort in collaboration with passing and covering the ball for each other. United played against the Chappaqua Turbo, winning 7-2.

Our first goal was an aggressive attempt as Hagai Frechter was challenged by the opponent team and slightly missed the shot on goal, Kyle DeLucia immediately recovered the ball and made a second shot for the first goal. Chappaqua managed to take control of the ball and take it back to our defending side which let the opponent team to make a shot at goal. Luckily our goal keeper Kellen Mc Guire saved the ball from going into the goal. Soon after Jhossep Murillo made a goal assisted by Leandro Santorum. Leandro made our third goal and Mateo Patino made our fourth goal assisted by a great passed from Julian Patino, whom later scored our 5th goal.

Second half of the game Bobby Prisco made his first goal of the season which was assisted by our defender Caesar Blanco. Our midfielders Daksh Kaushik and Jayden De La Cruz performed great control of the ball, conceived some shot on goal. To sum it all up the boys made several attempted shots to goals, which executed in stunning sportsmanship well and a played game.

2009 Boys Red Lions came away with a 1-0 victory on the road against the Scarsdale Juventus. On October 20, they travel to the Lansdowne Yonkers Flames. Coached by Brad Scheller and Nuno Andrade, the Red Lions are 2-1-2 playing in the top division of their age group.

2008 Girls Red Comets took on Scarsdale PSV at Hackley last Sunday. Scarsdale got an early goal, but the Red Comets came back to score and got right back into the game. Giovanna Fanelli had a couple shots on goal one of which was her first goal of the season to tie the game. This opened up the match and started the scoring drive for the Comets. Their second goal was scored by center midfielder Amani Carty to make it 2-1 Comets. The next pair of goals were delivered by Cassie Junge, who also played goalie the first half and did an outstanding job. All in all, the Comets moved the ball quick across the field and showed great team cohesion. The final score ended in a Red Comets victory of 4-2.

2008 Boys Fusion tied Eastchester Typhoon 3-3 in a hotly contested battle for the division lead on the road. Yet again, Fusion found themselves down 2 goals in the first 10 minutes after another slow start but showed typical resilency and cut the deficit to 2-1 when Edwin Dutan Pillacella fed Sebastian Londono in the box for a clean finish that easily beat a diving Typhoon keeper. Raul Socualaya, Jaiden Brito and Olin Keough settled in and anchored the Fusion defense and kept Typhoon’s chances minimal. Coupled with additional offensive pressure from Shaym and Dylan at the end of the half, it felt inevitable fusion would eventually equalize.

The equalizer did finally come early in the second half when Luke Tonaj saw the back of the net with a beautiful free kick just outside box to tie the game at 2-2. Despite outstanding play from the entire defense, particularly Bruno Flores in the sweeper position and Marcus Spataro in goal, with 5 minutes left the Typhoon were awarded and converted what appeared to be a game-winning penaty shot. Once again, Fusion fought back and knotted the score 3-3 in the waning minutes when Kieran Degen fed Sean Mackiewicz streaking up the right wing, who lofted a cross over two defenders to a wide open Pierce Davis in front of the goal for an expert 2 touch finish.

In second place in their division, Fusion will take on division leaders Eastchester again in the last week of the season. On October 20, Fusion will host the Wolfgang T-Wolves at 1:30pm at Hackley School field.

2008 Boys River Sharks tied 3-3 on the road against the Don Bosco Hawks Hurricanes. The River Sharks, at 3-1-1 in division 2 of their age group, are coached by Ed Greenberg, Michael Glynn, and Gerardo Soto. On October 20, they travel to the Shrub Oak Fusion.

2007 Girls Blaze

The Blaze may be a travel team, but they didn't have to travel far to play the Munay Earthquakes in Ossining this past weekend, where they played the Earthquakes to a 2 - 2 tie despite weather that ranged from heavy drizzle to outright downpour.

The Blaze started strong pressuring their opponents and keeping the ball on the offensive side of the field for most of the first half. Less than a minute into the game, Gemma Fante received a pass from Jhoseyn Pugo who had intercepted a pass near midfield. Gemma made a deft pass to Lizzie Molina. Lizzie dribbled towards the opposing goal and made a perfect pass to forward Lilly Wurster. Lilly's strong kick streaked past the Earthquake goalie who dove in vain.

While the Blaze kept the pressure on the opposing goalie, with strong shots on goal by forwards Daisy Star, Lizzie Molina, and Kayla McGuigan, nice saves by the Eathquakes goalie kept the Blaze from extending their lead.

With less than two minutes to go before the half, the Earthquakes tied the game when a corner kick went over the outstretched arm of Blaze goalie Emily Aridas into a group of players from both sides. In the ensuing scrum for the ball in the box, several shots on goal were made by the Earthquakes players and all but the last were turned back by either a Blaze defender or the goalie. When the whistle sounded less than 90 seconds later ending the first half, the Blaze walked dejectedly to the sideline, frustrated with a tie score after otherwise dominating the half.

With Coach John Sutherland taking a well-deserved break, rallying the Blaze troops was the responsibility of Coach Jim Wurster and Blaze Manager Annette O'Hanlon. Both Jim and Annette must have been on their game, as the team came out with renewed vigor in the second half, especially defender Zoey Murphy. Less than 2 minutes into the half, when the Earthquakes had a forward coming into the goalie box unopposed, Zoey raced from the opposing side of the field and made a diving kick save just as the shot was leaving the striker's feet. When the ball remained in play, and another Earthquake striker was making another shot on goal, Zoey leaped to her feet and raced back to block that shot as well.

Not satisfied with just running the defense, Zoey crank-started the team's offense when minutes later, Zoey's goalie kick up the sideline to midfielder Penny McVey was well placed. Penny's quick dribble and long pass up field to Lizzie Molina was executed just as the coaches would have drawn it up. Lizzie found her teammate Kayla McGuigan in the center of the goalie box. Double-teamed, Kayla made a nice pass backward to forward Ellie Fox. Ellie's high arching kick went over the goalie's leaping fingers and into the back of the net, putting the Blaze ahead again 2 - 1.

The Eathquakes used being down however to rally strongly for the rest of the game, and kept the majority of the play on the Blaze's side of the field. About 10 minutes after the Blaze had taken the lead, a pass to a streaking Earthquakes striker put Blaze goalie Emily Aridas alone against the attacking player. While Emily's diving save attempt put a glove on the shot, the deflection just put the kick into the corner of the net and not out into play.

Both teams tried mightily to break the tie. However, Blaze defensemen Meghan O'Hanlon, Juliana Marvin and Gabby Disney were able to challenge Earthquakes forwards and make passes up the field. Sami "Scoring Machine" Marvin, and Samantha Mendieta had several shots, but none found the back of the net.

2007 Boys Dynamo played well, but lost 2-1 against a strong White Plains team. With regular coach Alberto Blanco away for work, SHFC President Matt Evans stepped in as substitute coach. He reports that Dynamo is comprised of a great, committed bunch of boys. Players that stood out were Mike Chimbo for his nonstop hustle and and Justinplaying attack in the second half in defense. Eric and Jack were a good combination in the midfield. Eric scored Dynamo’s goal and it was a huge one -- from outside the penalty area, he knocked in a rocket that hit the top bar of the back of the net and shot back out, even confusing the referee for a second. Anthony, Chris, Jake, Sammy also deserve recognition for a game well played. Dylan played well in the goal, made some big saves to keep the team in the game.

With a 2-3 record, Dynamo will host the New Rochelle Vikings at 2pm at SHHS turf on October 20.

2007 Boys Dutchmen travelled to the West Side Red Bulls and came away with a 2-2 tie. On October 20, they travel to the Briarcliff Beasts. With a 1-1-3 record in division 2 of their age group, the Dutchmen are coached by Howard Allen.

2006 Girls Storm travelled to the Mahopac Strikers and came away with a 1-1 tie. With a 2-2-1 record in the top division of their age group, the Storm will travel to the division-leading Quickstrike Patriots on October 20. Storm are coached by Kevin Richardson, Tom Andruss, and Deepak Kapoor.

2006 Boys Firebolts, coached by Matt Weidner, fell 2-0 at home against the John Jay Purple. With a 1-3-1 record in division 2 of their age group, the Firebolts will host the Yorktown Impact on October 20 at 11am at Washington Irving School field.

2006 Boys Warriors lost 2-1 on the road against the JPSC Fire. They are 2-3 in their division and will travel to the Briarcliff Boltz on Sunday October 20.

2005 Girls Cyclones faced the Lansdowne Yonkers Orioles for the second time. The Cyclones fought and had many opportunities this game. The game began well matched but the Orioles had home field advantage and scored first 17 minutes into the game. The Cyclones continued to attack with intensity as the ball stayed in the attacking third for most of the half. The Orioles would go on to score two more goals to make the final score 3-0. The Cyclones continued attack and the defense did an amazing job of holding of the Orioles. Lauren Koch was the player of the game a she had nine saves! The team is looking to practice and regroup for their next game against Mt. Pleasant on October 20th.

2005 Boys Red Legends had a bye this week. They currently have a 3-0 record in the Premier Division of their age group. On October 19, they will play a rescheduled match on the road against the Rivertowns United Spartans. On October 20, they will travel to the New Rochelle Purple Dragons.

JV Boys Los Gauchos lost 1-0 on the road against the FC Spring Valley Blue. They are 3-2 in the Premier Division of their age group. On October 20, they host the Don Bosco Hawks Lightning at Washington Irving School field at 9am.
