Sleepy Hollow Football Club’s fall season continues – Week 2
Photos: Cyclones, Los Gauchos, Shadows, United, Fusion
Sleepy Hollow Football Club's 19 teams, in their red and white uniforms, play at four home fields in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Pocantico Hills: Washington Irving school field, Hackley School field, Pocantico Hills school field and Sleepy Hollow High School. Our teams also travel to play on fields across Westchester County as well as occasionally in neighboring Bronx, Manhattan, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess and Fairfield counties.
Competitive soccer play requires commitment from the players and their volunteer coaches, as well as the families and friends who travel to the games and provide boundless support. We are grateful for the community’s involvement, encouragement and support of our local youth in their athletic pursuits.
Here is each of our SHFC team’s results for this past week:

Boys 2011 All Reds played very well together in their second WYSL game. They showed much improved passing and communication. It was a close game throughout until their opponent scored in the last few minutes, making it a 3-2 final.
While it was a great team effort, it is notable that James McGovern did well at goalie, and that Matthew Zhuzhingo and Devin Degen scored for All Reds. On Sunday, the All Reds travel to the Rye Red Crush.

Girls 2011 Chaos travelled to the Eastchester La Roja. The score is not available. On Sunday, September 22, they travel to the Rye Courage.
2010 Girls Bandits fell 5-1 at home against the Yorktown Tornadoes. They will travel to the Rivertowns United on Sunday.
2010 Boys Shadow faced off against the Pleasantville Panthers at home this past Sunday, and the goals came early and often.
The Panthers took a lead at the 30 second mark, but the Shadows answered with two goals of their own and then stayed in front for the rest of the wide-open game.
Focused on player spacing and passing in recent weeks, the squad coached by Gary Fairley, Dipo Ashiru and Aaron Lucchetti reeled off a team-high in goals. The Shadows laid on the pressure, with impressive teamwork and communication from players including Jackson Pena, Elion Ashiru and Jayden Morocho.
Ashiru geared up for a first-half penalty kick that was blocked by Panther's keeper, but Joaquin Rodriguez followed through to score on the rebound, his first of three goals of the game. Congrats, Joaquin! Denis Suqui & Duncan Barron (in his Shadows debut) followed quickly with their own goals, ending the half with a score of 5-3.
Leo Zohar was in goalie position and regrouped quickly after giving up the first goal. He had some diving saves, including thwarting off a tough penalty kick. Branden Wang, Andrew Lucchetti and Luca Bruno shined on defense in an effort that included several blocked shots.
Pena and Ashiru were potent at striker, each scoring twice. Bobby Gonzalez fought hard to win over the ball several times in the second half and had great runs down the sideline. Nico Barbosa, after a stellar defensive effort, calmly converted the final goal of the game off a pass from Lucchetti. The final: a 10-6 win for the Shadows.
The Shadows will face off against Scarsdale Arsenal away on Sunday at 3:15pm.
2009 Girls Red Fury, coached by Katie McMahon and Jim McGovern, lost 2-1 to the North Salem Fighting Tigers on Sunday. The Red Fury dominated the first half against the Tigers and finished the half with a 1-0 lead after Meghan McMahon was able to score a goal off a pass by Rachel Richardson. Goalie Grace McGovern played amazingly in the first half keeping the Tigers from scoring with lots of defensive support by Sofia Cruz, Maiyumi Marcus-Kanesaka, Breanne Rodriguez, Swara Ketkar, and Katherine Masters.
Unfortunately, in the second half the Tigers were able to land two shots on goal despite the best efforts of goalie Meghan McMahon. Game effort was strong for the Fury with almost 30 shots on goal this week. Red cheeks proved that there was a lot of hussle by Rose Ritz, Samantha Taylor, Lauren Monachelli, and Maeve Yox. Come out to support the Red Fury next week when they take on the Rye Panthers at Hackley on Sunday at 1:30pm.
2009 Boys United, coached by John Patiño, beat the home Harrison Rapids 4-3. A close game, the United team showed a great team work last Sunday. Hagai Frechter scored his first goal the first half. In the second half, Joseph Murillo scored the second goal of the game. Kyle DeLucia played excellent defense, which helped the team. Julian Patino scored the third goal in the second half, from a corner ball that Joseph Murillo assisted. Hagai scored the winning goal for the United team at the end of the second half. All the kids demonstrated great potential throughout the game.
United will host the Pelham Slayers at 3pm Sunday at Hackley School field.
2009 Boys Red Lions lost 6-4 at home to the Port Chester Blues. They will travel to the LMFC White United on Sunday, September 22.
2008 Girls Red Comets won 6-0 on the road against the John Jay White. On Sunday, they play at Hackley School field at 4:30pm against the White Plains Black.
2008 Boys Fusion came out slowly against the New Rochelle Rockets, finding themselves down 2-0 within the first 10 minutes. After a Rocket penalty in the box, Sean Mackiewicz scored off a penalty kick, boosting Fusion’s offense. Bruno Flores and Sebastian Londono each had spectacular first-half attempts on goal which just went shy of their marks. A beautiful corner cross from Mackiewicz set up Ian Papadopoulos for a well-coordinated textbook goal. Additional attempts from Kieran Degen, Raul Socualaya, Jaiden Brito, and Luke Tonaj were stopped by a busy Rockets goalie. The teams went into the half tied at 2.
Marcus Spataro made an impressive debut in goal in the second half, with numerous saves when the game was very much on the line. Pierce Davis did a great job in goal the first half, and helped energize the front line offense in the second half. Fusion pulled ahead 3-2 when Londono sent a swift pass to Mackiewicz, but then the Rockets answered with their own goal just a few minutes later. When a Papadopoulos attempt bounced off the Rockets goalie, Mackiewicz was quick to finish the rebound for a score, to which the Rockets again answered to equalize at 4. Fusion realized that in order to win, they would have to control possession and keep the ball away from the Rockets, so defensive play from Edwin Dutan-Pillacella, Shyam Manjanath, Tonaj and Dylan Pasato was critical. With eight minutes left in the game, Fusion finally pulled ahead for good. Socualaya sent a long ball from the left side well outside the box to put Fusion up 5-4. The game would eventually end at 6-4 when Degen scored in a flurry of Fusion offensive pressure.
Coaches Ken Mackiewicz, Michael Degen and George Papadopoulos saw their team show determination and resolve in order to secure the win, which was a complete team effort. Fusion will host the Wolgfang Hubbies on Sunday at 12 noon at Hackley field.
2008 Boys River Sharks won 6-1 away against Munay B2008 Red in Ossining. Coached by Ed Greenberg, Michael Glynn, and Gerardo Soto, they travel to the Harrison Legends on Sunday.

2006 Boys Warriors lost 4-3 at home against the Don Bosco Hawks Thunder. Sunday they host the Alba Sharks at Washington Irving school field at 1:30pm.
2005 Girls Cyclones
We thought a 9:00 am kick-off would be challenging for our late-sleeping Cyclones, but they were wide awake and ready to play Pelham Blaze. The slick dewy conditions made for a fast-moving ball and a difficult beginning to the game. The Cyclones adjusted to these conditions and dominated the first half, keeping the game in the offensive third much of the time. Midway through the first half, and after many attempts by the Cyclones, a beautiful exchange between Angie S., Thalia T., and Diana C. led to the Cyclones first goal.
After the exchange, Diana C. pressured the goalie and put the rebound in the back of the net. The Cyclones didn’t stop there, another set of quick passes between Thalia T. and Isabelle M. led to Thalia T. scoring, putting the Cyclones up 2-0 by halftime. The Cyclones came out strong for the second half and after countless unlucky shots, Angie S. scored the final goal with minutes left in the game from a perfect cross from Shea B. As always our defense was at the ready, keeping Pelham Blaze out of our defensive third for the majority of the game. The Cyclones efforts led to a final score of 3-0 Cyclones.
2005 Boys Red Legends showed up in force at WI with 18 players to face the Port Chester Eagles. Unfortunately Port Chester did not match and only had 7 players. Port Chester elected to forfeit and the teams instead had a friendly scrimmage with the Red Legends lending the Eagles 4 players. Fun was had by all and the Red Legends remain undefeated in the Westchester Premier league. They will have a week off as next opponent Rivertowns wishes to reschedule Sunday’s match. The following week they play undefeated White Plains.
JV Boys Los Gauchos won 4-3 away in a very tough match at Port Chester. They rallied to come back from being doen 1-3 to win with 3 goals in final 15 minutes. Goals were scored by Braulin (2), Zach, and Oliver M. Assists came from Gabriel, Braulin, Esteban, and Oliver T. Men of the Match were : Alex, Adam, Sebastian, Zach, Evan, Oliver T.
