Repairs of power outages are well underway in Orange and Rockland counties, utility company officials said.
As of 9:45 a.m. Monday, O&R crews have repaired damage to restore electric service to approximately 5,100 customers whose power was knocked out by damage caused by the severe windstorm that began about 8 p.m. yesterday and is continuing through the day today.
About 2,100 customers are without power and are due for repair. For the latest storm outage numbers, please go to O&R’s outage map.
More and more roads are being blocked across the Hudson Valley by downed trees and power lines.
Cedar Lane in Ossining is blocked between Ogden and Stormytown roads due to a downed tree.
Yorktown police said to avoid Quinlan Street between Louella Road and Radcliffe Drive until further notice due to utilities down. The road is closed, police said.
In Sleepy Hollow, there is a large downed tree and wires in the middle of Rt. 9 by the cemetery. All traffic is being diverted through residential streets for the next several hours, according to village officials. Con Edison is in route to the location.
In Peekskill, power lines are down on Union Avenue.
Power crews are trying to restore electricity to 3,903 customers without power this morning in Orange and Rockland counties. They're part of a wider problem in the tri-state area, which has been buffeted by high winds since Sunday night.
For example, since the winds began around 10 p.m., about 10,000 Con Ed customers were affected by strong winds blowing trees and other debris into electrical equipment. As of 8 a.m., the company was working to restore about 1,500 customers without power in the five boroughs and Westchester County.
Gusts near or over 60 mph are expected throughout the day.

With high wind warnings throughout the Hudson Valley, it should be no surprise that there are speed restrictions Monday morning on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. The state Thruway Authority said the speed on the bridge is limited to 35 mph in both directions.
There is no estimated end time for the restrictions.
The high wind warning for Tarrytown is in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Remember these tips:
- If you see downed electrical wires, do not go near them because they could be live. Never attempt to move them or touch them with your hands or any object. Be mindful that downed wires can be hidden from view by tree limbs, leaves or water. Report downed wires to Con Edison and your local police department immediately.
- If a power line falls on your car while you're in it, stay inside the vehicle and wait for emergency personnel.
- If your power goes out, disconnect or turn off appliances that would otherwise turn on automatically when service is restored. If several appliances start up at once, the electric circuits may overload.
- Make sure your flashlights and any televisions or battery-operated radios are working. Have a supply of extra batteries. Weather updates and news on electrical service can be heard on local radio and television stations.
