Tarrytown Man Accused Of Selling Fake Car Inspection Stickers

Police said the man agreed to sell two of the stickers to an undercover cop.

TARRYTOWN, NY — A Westchester resident was accused of selling fake motor vehicle inspection stickers. Westchester County Police arrested Luis Pina-Perez, 36, of Tarrytown, and charged him with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and making a false inspection certificate, a misdemeanor.

Detectives said they began an investigation after county police received a confidential tip that a man was using Facebook Marketplace to sell fake DMV inspection stickers in Westchester.

The seller was contacted by police and agreed to meet on Wildey Street in Tarrytown.

An undercover detective agreed to pay $240 for two inspection stickers. After an agreement was reached, the suspect was taken into custody.

Pina-Perez was arraigned Wednesday in the Hastings-on Hudson Village Court. He was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Tarrytown Village Court Sept. 16.
