Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow Declare Snow Emergencies

Snow is being forecast to fall at 1 to 3 inches per hour.

TARRYTOWN, NY — In advance of the snowstorm in the forecast for Wednesday afternoon into Thursday, the villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow declared snow emergencies effective at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow village officials said residents should follow snow emergency parking rules posted on their street and have their vehicles moved accordingly on the following:

  • Beekman Avenue
  • Valley Street
  • Cortlandt Street
  • Clinton Street

Residents are reminded to not throw snow into the middle of the street when shoveling and are asked to keep the fire hydrants cleared of snow as much as possible in case of an emergency.

Outdoor decorations, garbage cans and patio furniture should be secured.

In case of power loss, call Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633. For downed wires or trees, call the Sleepy Hollow police at 914-631-0800.

Tarrytown

In Tarrytown, alternate side parking will be suspended starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday until 12:01 a.m. Monday.

Tarrytown village offices will operate remotely Thursday, with in-person services unavailable for the entire day. Staff are scheduled to be back in the offices Friday.

Other information provided by Tarrytown is as follows:

  • Police, Public Works and Parks staff will be on the job throughout the storm.
  • Warner Library will be closed Thursday.
  • The Tarrytown Fitness Center will be closed Thursday.
  • Scheduled Court cases will only take place virtually Thursday.
  • Organic waste and yard waste pickup is canceled for Thursday.
  • Sidewalk cafes are suspended beginning noon Wednesday until the sidewalks are determined to be clear/safe
  • By law, certain roads cannot be parked on during an active snow emergency (click here for a full list of streets)
  • If you need an off-street parking space during the storm, cars can be parked in Parking Lot A next to Village Hall and Lot D (near the Recreation Center) at no charge until after the snow stops and roads have been plowed.
  • Whenever possible, don’t park on the street so snowplows and equipment can get through.
  • Stay off the roads during the storm while snow is falling — with snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour, visibility will be extremely poor.
  • The goal is to restore roads, sidewalks and parking lots back to access by Thursday evening. Clean up efforts will continue on Friday.
  • The Tarrytown Village Code requires sidewalks, driveways and access points to be cleared of snow and ice after the storm.
  • Don’t throw the snow in the street. It is illegal to plow, snow-blow and shovel snow into the street. Please blow, shovel and plow the snow onto lawns and next to sidewalks and buildings.
