Tarrytown Small Business Spotlight: Brieff Studios

Our small business series shines a light on local business owners in the community.

Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this exciting series — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

What business are you in?

We're both artists looking for like-minded people who want to collaborate. We are starting small by hosting Drink & Draw nights once a month and hope to expand upon that in the future by hosting a variety of classes and workshops

How did you come up with the name?

Brieff is the combination of our names, Gabrielle and Jeff. It sounds better than Gabfrey or Jeffrielle :)

Why start a business in this town?

We love the Rivertowns! Since moving to Tarrytown last October, we have come to love the little community we are apart of. There are so many good bars and restaurants in Tarrytown, but we want to bring in more diversity in the area for things to do during the week. We want people of all creative levels to feel comfortable trying something new, and give local artists a place they can go to meet other artists and keep up with their skills or try another outlet.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?

So far we have only hosted a few Drink & Draw nights. The first time the worst possible thing could have happened — our model didn't show up! We ended up having a stand-in and it turned out to be a great night. It's always good to get those terrible things out of the way at the beginning.

What’s been your proudest achievement since opening?

Since we started our Drink & Draw nights we have met a lot of great people in the area. It's really cool that we can bring people of all ages and levels together for a fun night during the week. Our classes have been really successful I think that's definitely something to be proud of!

How does your business give back to the community?

We want to bring the arts to all people of the community and we want it to be accessible, not intimidating. For less than $20 you can have a great girls night out, a different kind of date night or just something new to try with friends. We hope that we can expand our classes to painting, photography, book making and more!
