SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY — A new study on the safest cities in the United States has found that two Hudson Valley communities rank in the top two in the "small cities" category.
AdvisorSmith used the most recently available data from the FBI to determine the safest cities in the U.S. by city size.
In the category of "small cities," meaning having a population under 100,000, the village of Sleepy Hollow ranked No. 1.

The city of Rye came in at No. 2, according to the study.
Sleepy Hollow, with a population of 10,080, was found to have two violent crimes per 1,000 people and zero property crimes. It received a crime score of 2.

According to AdvisorSmith, Sleepy Hollow, located on the Hudson River in Westchester County, is best known for the gothic short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
Rye, at No. 2, had 0.7 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 1.4 property crimes per 1,000, according to the study. It received a crime score of 2.6. Rye has a population of 15,756.
The town of Bedford, with 17,791 residents, was ranked No. 17, with an overall crime score of 3.8.
Of the top 20 small cities, three were in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts, five were in Pennsylvania and four were in New Jersey.
