Teams rely upon the dedication and hard work of the players, support and commitment of their families, and guidance from their volunteer coaches.

Here is each of our SHFC team's results for this past week:

Boys 2011 All Reds lost 6-0 on the road against the Rye Red Crush. On Sunday, they host the Greenburgh United Jaguars at Pocantico Hills school field at 11am.

2010 Girls Bandits earned a well fought 4-2 victory against Rivertowns United G10 Warriors Sunday at the opposing field. The team did great the entire game moving the ball up the field and passing between players. The first half featured Sabrina Graham in goal with at least 3 spectacular saves. Defensive players Marley DeFilippis, Mackenzie Linhart, and Natalia Hargreaves held the Warriors off the goal. Offensive teamwork featuring Marianna Patsch, Ada Chalfy, Mila Gallagher, Melodie Molina and Katie Yalmokas passed and shot on goal a few times. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie (goal credit Chalfy, shot and assist by Yalmokas).

The second half started with a goal by the Warriors, but they were unable to stop Chalfy who answered their one goal with 3. Exciting second half for the Bandits with a great shot by Gallagher, defensive clearing by Linhart, Molina and Noa Levine showed great teamwork moving the ball up the field. Graham, still in goal for the second half added more impressive saves to her record. Patch, Yalmokas and Chalfy kept the intensity on the opponents goal and Hargreaves and DeFilippis were a powerful force defending the Bandit's goal.

All in all, the entire team played their best and hardest on the very warm day. Thank you coaches Mike Levine, Michelle DeFilippis and Mike Glynn for a great week of practice and training! (Please scroll for a photo of the team from after the game.)

2010 Boys Shadow

Another hot and sunny day for the Shadows match up against Scarsdale Arsenal this past Sunday. The teams were the most evenly matched we've seen so far this season. Both goalkeepers saw a lot of action. Jackson Pena thrived in striker position and had several shots on goal at the 10 minute mark. Luca Bruno proved commanding in defense again this week and the boys displayed strategy as Joaquin Rodriguez and Elion Ashiru had shots on goal. The Shadows were down 0-1 at the halftime after a sneak by goalkeeper Leo Zohar.

Scarsdale started the second half strong with another goal on Zohar. Rodriguez quickly answered with an amazing curved shot that started far from the goal and landed in the top corner. The Shadows had their fire back. Andrew Lucchetti proved to be a speedy and key player in defense position. Ashiru hustled for the next goal, which was deflected twice by Scarsdale's goalkeeper, but Ashiru didn't give up and landed this and an additional goal in to end the game with a Shadows win at 3-2.

The Shadows will face off on Sunday at home against the Pelham Mavericks.

2009 Girls Red Fury had a fierce game against Rye Panthers on a hot end-of-summer day.

Rose Ritz took a strong shot on goal within the first 15 minutes. Goalie Grace McGovern had multiple terrific saves against the tough Rye offense. Grace’s saves continued throughout the first half, with only one goal passing through on her watch.

Fury defensive players Kate Masters, Samantha Taylor and Maeve Yox played strong defense, continuously kicking the ball up to mid. The plays continued with great passes by Lauren Monachelli, Breanne Rodriguez and Swara Ketkar. Maeve Yox, Sofia Cruz were among others to take shots on goal but the Rye goalie was quick to block.

Fury kept their fire going in the second half, with multiple shots on goal by Meghan McMahon, Rachel Richardson, Rose Ritz and Breanne Rodriguez. Goalie Maiyumi Marcus-Kanesaka beautifully blocked numerous shots, but ultimately Rye landed one more goal. Red Fury finished with a 0-2 loss. They play Chappaqua Blast away at 7 Bridges on September 29th.

2009 Boys United, coached by Coach John Patino, continued to dominate at their first home game of the season against Pelham. United beat Pelham 9-3.

Goals were tallied by Hagai Frechter (3), Jhossep Murillo, Caesar Blanco (2), Mateo Patino and Leandro Santorum. The whole team had a great chemistry from passing to ball control and strong defense performed by Joseph Ruiz and Kyle DeLucia. The boys worked together and had some amazing passes, assisted by Daksh Kaushik, Jayden De la Cruz, Dylan Star and Kellen McGuire. United’s main goal keeper of the game, Robert Prisco, was strong to divert shots on goal.

On Sunday, United travel to the John Jay White.

2009 Boys Red Lions won 4-3 on the road against the LMFC White United. Coached by Brad Scheller and Nuno Andrade, the Red Lions are playing in the top division of their age group. On Sunday, they host the Manhattan Boca at 1:30pm at Hackley School field.

2008 Girls Red Comets took on White Plains Black on Hackley's steamy field and came out on top after an exciting and tough battle. The Comets scorers were Ava Mendez, Amani Kelly Carty and two goals from Cassie Junge with a great assist from Giovanna Fanelli. Red Comets over White Plains Black 4-1. On Sunday, they travel to the Port Chester Cheetahs.

2008 Boys Fusion came out slowly against the Wolgfang Hubbies, finding themselves down 2-0 within the first 10 minutes. This was identical to Fusion’s start the previous week, and a source of frustration for its coaches. Fusion started to wake up and play, and rapid attempts from Kieran Degen, Sean Mackiewicz and Sebastian Londono kick-started the offense. Mackiewicz fed the ball to Londono for Fusion’s first score, then to Bruno Flores for Fusion’s second score to even the game at 2. In the final minutes of the half, attempts from Mackiewicz, Degen, Flores and Shyam Manjanath showed pressure but didn’t find their marks.

In the second half, the lead would flip-flop rapidly. The Hubbies scored right away, and were answered by a Pierce Davis goal, which was set up when a Degen attempt ricocheted off the crossbar. Beautiful swift and effective passing from Edwin Dutan Pillacella to Mackiewicz to Londono make it 4-3. Davis would then score again on a well-placed long ball. Despite additional offensive attempts, Fusion would not score again and the Hubbies were able to equalize. Fusion’s goalies Pierce Davis and Marcus Spataro worked hard in goal, saving many but seeing 5 goals get into the net. Fusion will work hard to improve upon defense and ball clearing.

With a final score of 5-5, Fusion showed persistence on a hot day and will look forward to their next game, which is at 12noon at Hackley School field against the John Jay Purple.

2008 Boys River Sharks won 7-1 away against the Harrison Legends. On Sunday, they host the Eastchester Arsenal at 3pm at Hackley School field. The River Sharks, in division 2 of their age group, are coached by Ed Greenberg, Michael Glynn, and Gerardo Soto.

2007 Girls Blaze, SHFC's youngest Premier team, traveled to Yorktown in a Sunday noontime clash against the Yorktown Tsunami and prevailed 5 - 0.

While the first 28 minutes of the game were scoreless, coach John Sutherland's team executed some well-practiced passing to break through. Gabby Disney's deep goalie kick to midfield found Lizzie Molina on the left sideline, who had a one touch pass to forward Ellie Fox. Ellie dribbled briefly and then made a perfect pass to a streaking Kayla McGuigan, hitting her in stride. Kayla's quick kick to the top left corner of the net gave the Blaze a lead they would not relinquish.

Five minutes later Gabby Disney made a shot on goal very reminiscent of her goal two years ago in the Westchester Cup. From the 30 yard line, Gabby's arching shot was just under the crossbar and just above the leaping goalie's outstretched hand, doubling the Blaze's lead. Two minutes later, Blaze Assistant Coach Jim Wurster must have been smiling when his daughter Lily Wurster challenged a Yorktown sweeper and won the ball. Lilly passed to Ellie Fox in midfield, who once again found Kayla McGuigan in stride. Kayla's quick shot was just past the goalie's diving save attempt and put the Blaze ahead 3 - 0 before the half.

In the second half, Kayla showed that she could pass as well as score when playing midfield, Kayla found Gemma Fante just in front of the Tsunami net. Gemma's quick shot resulted in putting the Blaze ahead 4 - 0. Eight minutes later when a feed from Kimmie Molina found Daisy Star on the forward sideline, the only way to avoid surrendering their 5th goal was for the Yorktown defender to deflect the ball out past the goal line. On the ensuing corner kick, Kayla McGuigan found Sami Marvin in front of the Yorktown net. A quick strike put the Blaze ahead by the final 5 - 0 score with just over 15 minutes to play.

While the Tsunami tried valiantly to get back into the game, midfielders Zoey Murphy and Jhoselyn Pugo worked hard and were able to keep the ball on the opposing side of the field for forwards Samantha Mendieta and Lizzie Molina to take additional shots on goal. Keeping the goalie box clear of attackers were defenders Juliana Marvin and Lily Wurster who constantly challenged any Yorktown offensive threats. With such strong ball control, Blaze goalie Emily Aridas fielded just 6 shots on goal the entire game, none of which found the net.

The Blaze's next game is scheduled for 9:00 am next Sunday at Washington Irving against the first place Chappaqua Cheetahs. The Blaze, who won without midfielder Penny McVey and versatile defender/midfielder Meghan O'Hanlon, will need to be at full strength to beat their Premier rivals.

2007 Boys Dynamo won 3-2 in a hard-fought game on a sizzling Washington Irving turf field against the Greenburgh United Sounders. Dynamo’s goals were scored by Mike Chimbo and Jake Platt, both off defensive dispossessions, and by Justin Paute, who was fed the ball by Ian Papadopoulos on a breakaway.

In spite of very hot conditions, Dynamo never game up and consistently pushed the tempo of the game which ultimately, led their opponent’s defense to falter. Dylan Largo played an excellent game in goal for Dynamo. It was a very close game until the final minutes.

On Sunday, they will travel to the Rye Mustangs.

2007 Boys Dutchmen travelled to the Rivertowns United Lightning Bolts and came away with a 3-3 tie. On Sunday, they travel to the Chappaqua Cosmos.

2006 Girls Storm won 1-0 on the road against the Shrub Oak Thunder. On Sunday, they host the Manhattan Rockets at 4pm at Sleepy Hollow HS field. Playing in the top division of their age group, the Storm are coached by Kevin Richardson, Tom Andruss, and Deepak Kapoor.

2006 Boys Firebolts, coached by Matt Weidner, fell 4-3 at home against the Lansdowne Yonkers Cougars in a tough match. On Sunday, the host the FC Transylvania Barca White at 12:45pm at Washington Irving school field.

2006 Boys Warriors won 2-1 at home against the Alba Sharks. On Sunday, they host the New Rochelle Arrows at Washington Irving school field at 2:30pm.

2005 Girls Cyclones faced a challenging opponent Sunday when they played a match against Landsome Yonkers Orioles. Yonkers has been a powerhouse with its defensively based style of play. The Cyclones were up to the challenge with only 11 players. The Cyclones came out strong and dominated in the first half. At five minutes in, Thalia Tsilibes received a pass from Isabelle Murphy outside the 18; she faked a long pass, turned towards the goal. Thalia’s shot caught the Yonkers keeper off her line and looking into the sun. Her shot found the net! Angie Santos would score seven minutes later in the same fashion with the assist coming from Diana Cordero. Angie’s shot was taken from the 40-yard line that floated and bent past the goalie. The Cyclones continued to press and would walk off at half up 2-0.

The turf heated up like an oven, and with no subs, players had to come off the field to lower their body temperatures and hydrate. This did not diminish the Cyclones' ability to control the tempo, at one point they continued to attack with 9 players on the field! The Cyclones would score off a corner as a Yonkers defender misread the trajectory and put the ball into the goal. However, the heat started to take its toll. Yonkers scored off a fast-paced counter for their first goal of the game. Not much later, Yonkers scored again- off a corner with an unstoppable shot placed in the upper 90. Cyclones shifted their focus to defense as Yonkers began to work their way into the Cyclones defensive third shooting on goal with frequency. Lauren Koch kept the Cyclones in the game during the second half as she repeatedly made correct decisions, making at least seven saves! The Cyclones would score their final goal off an attack lead by Diana Cordero who would send the ball to Thalia Tsilibes who scored up close. Yonkers would answer with ten minutes left on the clock making the score 4-3. The Cyclones dug deep and left it all on the field as they broke up every organized attack from Yonkers during the final eight minutes. Every member of the team made a contribution to this amazing victory!

Special thanks to Joe Golden for being there to capture the victory!

2005 Boys Red Legends had a week off due to a match reschedule. On Sunday, they take on the undefeated White Plains at 2pm at the Sleepy Hollow HS field.

JV Boys Los Gauchos lost a tough game after leading most of the game, 2-3. Goals from Oliver M. and assists from Braulin and Gabriel. This was Braulin's last game for SHFC as he is relocating. All the boys gave him a great send off and pitched-in for various gifts. He will be greatly missed, as he never missed a practice or game, has always been completely dedicated to his teammates and was a true pleasure to coach.
