2010 Boys Shadow won 7-1 at home vs Pelham Mavericks, playing a complete team game for the full 50 minutes. Bobby Gonzalez started the scoring in the first half with a blistering shot from the right side of the field, and Elion Ashiru added a goal off a long free kick to give SHFC a 2-1 lead.
Goalie Joaquin Rodriguez denied several Maverick rushes to keep the score tight until two tallies by right striker Hagai Frechter, assisted by line mate Duncan Barron, put the game at hand early in the second half.
As the game progressed, the boys increased their passing and focused on keeping ball possession. Left forward Jayden Morocho distributed the ball with a team-high 13 passes, leading to goals by Denis Suqui, Andrew Lucchetti and Nico Barbosa. Defenders Branden Wang and Luca Bruno set the tempo at the back end and kept Pelham attacks from turning into goals. Next up is a home game Sunday, 1:30 p.m. vs. FC Transylvania.
2009 Girls Red Fury fell 3-1 on the road against the Chappaqua Blast. Coached by Katie McMahon and Jim McGovern, the team will travel to the Scarsdale Roma on Sunday at 1:30pm.
2009 Boys United, coached by Coach John Patino, played a very competitive game. The United team demonstrated teamwork, giving 110% in the field, with many passing and mastery skills of the ball. In the first half of the game, the John Jay White team scored the first goal off a penalty. While the United team remained strong, with an excellent defense that could keep the first part of the game 1-0. Kyle DeLucia, Joseph Ruiz and Cesar Blanco were defenders who remained focused, defending the goal against such a competitive match. Bobby Prisco, was the goalie in the first half, demonstrated his excellent skills in the goalkeeper.
In the second half of the game, the United team players took control of the ball, being able to score a penalty goal that was scored by Hagai Frechter; which helped to tie the game. The midfield players (Jayden de la Cruz, Jhossep Murillo, Leandro Santorum), defenses and offense (Mateo Patino, Julian Patino, Kellen McGuire) remained focused on controlling the ball that helped them score another goal. Julian Patino assisted Hagai Frechter to score the goal to end the match 2-1 with just 5 minutes left to play. It was a joint effort of all to lead the United team to victory. Each of the players gave their best to beat the opposing team.
2009 Boys Red Lions ended with a 2-2 tie at home against the Manhattan Boca. Coached by Brad Scheller and Nuno Andrade, the Red Lions are playing in the top division of their age group. On Sunday, they travel to the Scarsdale Juventus.
2008 Girls Red Comets travelled to the Port Chester Cheetahs, losing 2-0. On Sunday, they travel to the New Rochelle Rangers.
2008 Boys Fusion was able to shake off its slow-start slump and came out aggressively in their home game against the John Jay Purple. In minute three, Sean Mackiewicz in the corner found Kieran Degen for a swift score. Purple would tie it, then Fusion brought on an onslaught of goals. Two goals each were tallied on the day for Mackiewicz and Degen. Sebastian Londono, Edwin Dutan Pillacella, Pierce Davis and Luke Tonaj would each have one. Going into the half up 5-1, Fusion would ultimately prevail 8-3.
Additional solid attempts from Bruno Flores, Dylan Pasato, Tonaj and Degen were met by John Jay’s keeper instead of the net. Pierce Davis and Marcus Spataro, each in goal for one half, played solid games.
On Sunday, Fusion will travel to the Eastchester Typhoon, who are currently 4-0 and one game above Fusion in their division standings.
2008 Boys River Sharks lost 6-1 at home against the Eastchester Arsenal. On Sunday, they travel to the Don Bosco Hawks Hurricanes. The River Sharks, in division 2 of their age group, are coached by Ed Greenberg, Michael Glynn, and Gerardo Soto.
2007 Girls Blaze
SHFC's youngest Premier team - the U-13 Girls Blaze team - had a Sunday morning match at Washington Irving this past Sunday against the first place Chappaqua Cheetahs.
Ten minutes into the game the Cheetah's took a quick 1 - 0 lead when a free kick from just outside the box made it past the outstretched arms of the Blaze goalie. The Blaze evened the score less than a minute later when Blaze goalie Emily Aridas made one of her 6 first half saves and punted the ball to the left sideline to defender Zoey Murphy. Zoey, who had a strong overall game, out-muscled the cheetah forward for the ball and passed to midfielder Ellie Fox. Ellie dribbled up the sideline, drawing defenders and found a streaking Kayla McGuigan in-stride. Kayla outran the last Cheetah defender and her strong kick from the 10 yard line found the back of the net and brought the Blaze even in the contest.
Play remained scoreless for most of the half but just before halftime, Ellie Fox successfully challenged and won the ball from a Cheetah midfielder. Ellie corralled the ball and passed to left forward Gemma Fante. Gemma dribbled past the defender assigned to her and had a nice touch pass to Kayla McGuigan. Kayla scored her second goal of the half as her shot found the back of the net.
In the second half, Coach John Sutherland's and Assistant Coach's Jim Wurster made sure their team's first half lead was not wasted. Indeed, the team's pair of sisters actually executed wonderful passing technique that came close to adding to the team's 2 - 1 lead. Defender Kimmie Molina challenged several Blaze forwards and after winning the ball would pass to midfielder/sister Lizzie Molina. Lizzie had a strong game overall with several deft passes and strong shots on goal, but none found the back of the net. Likewise, defender Juliana Marvin had several strong throw-ins and passes to sister/forward Sami, "the Scoring Machine" Marvin, but the Cheetah goalie was up to the task of keeping her team close. The closest the Blaze came to adding to their lead was when a throw-in from Penny McVey to Lizzie Molina and Lizzie's one touch pass to a streaking Carina Armster allowed Carina to race past her defender on a breakaway. Only a strong save by the Cheetah goalie kept the score the same.
Due to strong midfield play by the Blaze, particularly Jhoselyn Pugo, Samantha Mendieta and Meghan O'Hanlon, the majority of the second half was played with the Blaze attacking the Cheetah defense. Whenever a Cheetah defender would pass up the field, one of Meghan, Samantha or Jhoselyn was there to challenge the midfielder or even intercept a pass.
The Blaze also played great team defense in the second half. Defenders Penny McVey, Lilly Wurster, Juliana Marvin and Gabby "the Minister of Defense" ensured all Cheetah attacks were strongly contested. Blaze goalie Emily Aridas, more vocal at the urging of Blaze Coach John Sutherland, commanded her defensive forces like a chess master, and when necessary made the saves herself to keep the Blaze ahead. One save, a diving deflection off the foot of a Blaze forward with just minutes left in the game ensured the Blaze captured all 3 game points.
While the Blaze and their parents had to wake up extra early this week to be at the field ahead of the 9:00 am match, the game next Sunday for the first place Blaze against the Munay Earthquakes is not scheduled to start until 3;15 pm in Ossining.
2007 Boys Dynamo won 4-1 on the road against the Rye Mustangs. On Sunday at 1:30pm, they play the White Plains Black at Washington Irving school.
2007 Boys Dutchmen travelled to the Chappaqua Cosmos and came away with a 1-1 tie. On Sunday, they travel to the West Side Red Bulls.
2006 Girls Storm won 1-0 on their home turf against the Manhattan Rockets. On Sunday, they travel to the Mahopac Strikers. Playing in the top division of their age group, the Storm are coached by Kevin Richardson, Tom Andruss, and Deepak Kapoor.
2006 Boys Firebolts, coached by Matt Weidner, fell 3-1 at home against the Transylvania Barca White. They take to the Washington Irving school field on Sunday to host the John Jay Purple at 11am.
2006 Boys Warriors lost 2-1 at home against the New Rochelle Arrows. On Sunday, they travel to the JPSC Fire.
2005 Girls Cyclones
With only 9 players the Cyclones did not want to forfeit, so they took the field ready to give it their best to compete against White Plains Black. We gave it our best shot, players willingly took on new positions, and played with injuries all to defend first place. Unfortunately the Cyclones fell to White Plains 6-0. We look forward to meeting White Plains Black again with a full, healthy squad.
2005 Boys Red Legends took sole possession of first place in the premier division with an impressive 3-0 win over previously undefeated White Plains. The Red Legend defense shut out a high-octane White plains offense that had been averaging more than 4 goals per game. The Red Legends are blessed to have two star keepers in David Urgiles and Cooper Taylor. Both were needed Sunday as they alternated injuries but kept the clean sheet. Dylan Orellana had a monster game scoring two goals, one from distance and one off a Frank Mendieta assist. The third score was a group effort as the Red Legend pressure forced an own goal off a cross. The SHFC boys have scored 11 goals and only allowed 1 as they finish the first third of the season.
JV Boys Los Gauchos prevailed 1-0 at home against the Lansdowne Yonkers Predators. On Sunday, they travel to the FC Spring Valley Blue.
