Westchester Business Association Holds Conference on Economic Blueprint

Municipal officials, planners, zoning experts, land use attorneys, business owners developers and community members will join the Westchester County Association in envisioning a master plan for economic growth in the county.

The “Rethinking Westchester: A Blueprint for Smart Growth” conference will be hosted by the White Plains-based group on June 21 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“’Rethinking Westchester’ is designed to educate and encourage local elected and appointed officials to think creatively about innovative approaches to economic development,” said Marissa Brett, executive director of the WCA’s BLUEPRINT for Westchester in a press release.

Experts specializing public-private partnerships, modern infrastructure and community revitalization will offer their methods on how to improve local municipalities in the region.

“Westchester County has the potential to emerge as a hotbed of innovation, but both business and government leaders need to work collaboratively and adopt an entrepreneurial mindset," said Brett. "In other words, we need to follow the example of a great innovative company like Apple and ‘Think Different.'”

Site selection expert Mark M. Sweeney, a senior principal at McCallum Sweeney Consulting, will tell participants how to prepare to work with developers. Another keynote speaker Kathryn S. Wylde, who is president and CEO of Partnership for New York City, will show how public-private partnerships can help fund public projects.

“Everyone who attends this conference will gain a better understanding of the importance of creating vibrant communities to attract business and a talented workforce," said William Mooney, president of the Westchester County Association, in the release. "They’ll also learn how to fund projects at a time when public dollars are limited.”
