A $550K Home Looks Much Different In North Carolina, But Would You Leave LI For It? [POLL]

When we shared two photos on our Long Island Patch Facebook pages Friday of similarly priced homes on Long Island and in North Carolina, locals as well as those who have moved off the island had plenty to say.

Here are the details of the homes pictured:

Top: Blue Point, Long Island – 4-bed, 2-bath ranch listed for $575,000, annual taxes of $14,024. See the full listing.

Bottom: Cary, N.C. – 5-bed, 4-bath Colonial listed for $550,000, annual taxes of $4,405. See the full listing.

Here's one of the pro-Long Island comments on our Facebook pages:

But when you walk out your door...you are in North Carolina. Not worth it. A shack in the NYC Metropolitan area with all it gives you access to is worth two mansion size houses in most of the rest of the country. Keep your Walmarts, college sports, and Denny/Waffle House type restaurants...and thinking Domino's and Pizza Hut is really pizza... supermarket frozen bagels...cmon.....North Carolina sounds like a nice place for a vacation home...not a primary residence.

And here's a pro-North Carolina comment:

I'm leaving for North Carolina next year. What do you get here?? Ridiculous taxes, Counties that are absolutely broke, infrastructure that is falling apart....potholes EVERYWHERE, when u go out of state everything is new, roads are clean and maintained and ur taxes are 1/3 what they are here!!!!
