Detroit-Style Pizzeria Emmy Squared Opens On Upper East Side

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Upper East Side's newest pizzeria champions a little-known style of the beloved cheese, sauce and dough creation that was pioneered in the Midwest.

Emmy Squared will begin servings its signature Detroit-style pizzas at its new space on Tuesday, Dec. 10, a spokesperson for the pizzeria said. The restaurant, Emmy Squared's third in New York City, is located in a space on the corner of Third Avenue and East 81st Street that was previously home to Pizza Beach.

"We’ve always wanted to open an Emmy Squared in an uptown space and we finally found a
home on the Upper East Side. It’s a new neighborhood and we’re excited to introduce our food
to the community here," Emmy Squared founder Emily Hyland said in a statement.

Emmy Squared's menu features a number of different pies made with both red and white sauce. Detroit-style pizza is baked in a square pan, resulting in rectangle slices with a thick and crispy crust. The restaurant also features an acclaimed burger if diners aren't in the mood for pizza.

Exclusive menu items will be offered at the Upper East Side location, a restaurant spokesperson said. These include a pizza topped with caramelized onions, sausage and smoked mozzarella and an order of waffle fries made with truffle cream, truffle sausage and parsley.

Emmy Squared's new Upper East Side location will seat 78 diners and is open from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
