The Palace of Versailles-inspired Upper East Side mansion is back on the market for $88 million, according to Realtor.com.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side mansion originally built for a nineteenth century silk trader is back on the market for a whopping $88 million, according to Thursday Realtor.com listing.
Billionaire and CEO of Virtu Financial, Vincent Viola, has re-listed his six-story townhouse at 12 East 69th Street. Viola bought the 19-room, 40-foot-wide mansion back in 2005 for a mere $20 million, property records show. The 20,000-square-foot house was listed for a $113 million in 2013, but struggled to find a buyer.
Originally commissioned in 1883 for a silk trader, the mansion between Madison and Fifth avenues was transformed into its current style that rivals a fairytale castle in 1913 by architect William Welles Bosworth, who built the Rockefeller family estate in Westchester and helmed a restoration project for the Palace of Versailles in France.
