First Look at Memorial Sloan Kettering Upper East Side Laboratory Facade

Installation on a shiny glass facade for Memorial Sloan Kettering's new building on East 64th Street is underway.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Construction on a glass facade for Memorial Sloan Kettering Caner Center's new Upper East Side research lab has begun.

The new, shiny wall of glass was first noticed by New York YIMBY on Tuesday. A picture on the website reveals the glass wall, which stands out compared to the extensive scaffolding occupying the construction site and the adjacent red brick building.

The building, located on East 64th Street between First and Second avenues, will help expand Memorial Sloan Kettering's treatment services in the city, according to the center's website. The 90,000 square-foot building will occupy nine floors, six above ground and three underground, and rise 75 feet in height. Judging by the picture on YIMBY construction on the exterior of the building has topped out. According to Memorial Sloan Kettering, construction on the building is set to be completed soon and the center is expected to be operational sometime in 2017.
