Interiors Of UES Mansions Set For Demolition To Be Sold: Report

Items up for sale include antique fireplaces, stair railings, marble mantelpieces and entire windows.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Two Upper East Side mansions built in the early 20th century will be demolished to make way for a new condo buildings, but the insides of the buildings will be preserved and sold, according to reports.

Items such as antique fireplaces, mantelpieces, windows and floor and wall paneling from the twin mansions on East 79th Street between Park and Lexington avenues went on sale this week at Demolition Depot — a Harlem business that salvages and sells artifacts of old New York City. The real estate publication 6sqft was the first to notice the sale and report on it.

The antique furnishings are being marketed by Demolition Depot as "an impressive addition to any home, apartment, hotel, restaurant, office, etc.," according to a listing set up by the business. Many of the fixtures being sold are in an "excellent, clean condition."

"From the stunning interior of the homes, an abundance of original, finely crafted architectural ornaments are being made available. Magnificent complete paneled rooms, finely carved marble mantels, elegant stair railings in iron or carved wood, leaded glass windows, parquet flooring, and so on," the listing reads.

The French Renaissance-style homes, first built in 1909, will be demolished with three other low-rise buildings on the block to create a development site for a planned 19-story condo building, according to plans filed with the city Department of Buildings. The new apartment tower will rise 209-feet-tall and contain 113,453 square feet of space zoned for residential use. The total size of the development will be 145,027 square feet.

Legion Investment Group is the developer behind the project. With just 36 planned apartments, the average unit in the new building will be about 3,151 square fet large. The size of the apartments indicates the building will cater to high-income residents.

SLCE Architects has been tapped by Legion to design the new development, according to building plans. The apartment tower will feature amenities such as a sports court, a dog room, a library, residential lounge space and a laundry room.
