Madison Avenue Gallery Walk Set To Return This Weekend

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Undeterred by the pandemic, the Madison Avenue Gallery Walk is set to return this weekend for a day's worth of free art offerings — with new safety protocols in place.

The popular event, now in its fourth year, will be held starting 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. Twenty-five galleries are participating, with the public invited to stop by each gallery and attend talks and tours by artists and curators throughout the day.

Online reservations are required to reserve a space at the galleries, which are located along Madison Avenue and its adjacent side streets between East 57th and 86th streets. Attendees are required to wear face masks, with capacity limited to maintain social distancing.

Works on display include an exhibition on the "Golden Age of American Printmaking," with a focus on city views, at Arader Galleries. An exhibition on "Primitivism and Modern Indian Art" at DAG showcases works by prominent Indian masters, while "Love is in the Air" at Galerie Gmurzynska showcases masterpieces by the sculptor Robert Indiana, including a talk by gallery director Martin Freidrichs.

Organizers say the Gallery Walk is one of the few in-person art events being held in New York this fall. At least one other event also took place recently in the neighborhood: October Art Week, which began Oct. 9 at participating galleries and has been extended through Oct. 31 thanks to widespread interest.

The walk is organized by the Madison Avenue B.I.D. along with ARTnews.
