Missing UES Man Found Dead In East River, Police Say

An 81-year-old man's body was found in the East River near the Randall's Island footbridge.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A missing Upper East Side man was found dead in the East River, an NYPD spokesman said.

Officers recovered the body of 81-year-old Theodore Giannaris Thursday from the river in the vicinity of the Randall's Island footbridge, police said. The man was last seen leaving his East 64th Street home in a grey suit on the morning of Sunday, June 7, police said.

The NYPD issued a "silver alert" for Giannaris this week, a special term for a missing person who may be suffering from Alzheimer's disease, dementia or another mental disability.

The city medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine Giannaris' cause of death.
