Northwell Health Plans Upper East Side Expansion: Report
The healthcare company, which operates Lenox Hill Hospital, will build a new ambulatory care and cancer center on Third Avenue.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Northwell Health, the healthcare company that operates Lenox Hill Hospital, is planning to build a massive new medical facility on the Upper East Side on a parcel of land the company has been eyeing since last fall, according to reports.
Northwell Health's expansion will be located on a site currently occupied by six low-rise buildings on Third Avenue between East 76th and 77th street, Crain's New York first reported. The plot of land was recently sold to the nonprofit development firm University Financing Foundation, which is partnering with Northwell, according to the report.
The new facility will be an ambulatory care and cancer center, a spokesman for Northwell told Crain's.

"It's our intent to establish a major cancer care facility in Manhattan," a spokesman told Crain's. "This would enable us to significantly expand what we're doing at Lenox Hill."
Northwell will likely lease the land from University Financing Foundation with the option to buy, Crain's reported. A construction timetable has not been set, although it's likely far off considering the entire building site will need to be demolished.

The healthcare company had been eyeing the Third Avenue development site — owned by the Glick family's real estate firm — as a potential expansion site since late 2017.
