Obamas May Move To Upper East Side: Report

Barack and Michele Obama were spotted checking out an apartment in the coveted 10 Gracie Square co-op, sources told The New York Post.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Move aside, Trump Tower. A coveted Upper East Side co-op may soon cement itself as the most presidential building in New York City. Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were recently spotted checking out an apartment for sale in the neighborhood, according to a report.

The presidential couple was spotted viewing a duplex apartment at 10 Gracie Square — formerly home to residents such as Gloria Vanderbilt and New Yorker critic Alexander Woolcott — multiple anonymous sources told the New York Post's Page Six.

A spokesperson for the Obamas did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.

The apartment unit — a 12-room duplex just blocks away from Gracie Mansion — is under contract to be sold for $10 million, according to a listing on realtor.com. The New York Post could not confirm whether the Obamas are the new owners of the unit.

The duplex contains five bedrooms and four bathrooms, according to a realtor.com listing, which means there would be plenty of space for former First Dog Bo Obama to stretch his legs. The home also offers all the privacy a former president could need. Amenities include full-time lobby attendants, a live-in resident manager, a private drive-through breezeway, private storage and indoor basketball and squash courts, according to a realtor.com listing.

Barack Obama is no stranger to New York City. The former president graduated from Columbia University and previously resided in Park Slope. If it's indeed true that Obama is moving to the city, he will find friendly confines in the liberal stronghold. During a February visit to Manhattan, Obama was given a hero's welcome.

The Obamas bought a home in the elite D.C. neighborhood of Kalorama for $8.1 million in June. The family had previously rented the 6,441-square-foot, nine-bedroom, 8.5-bath mansion since moving out of the White House in January.
