UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The original Oren's Daily Roast location that has served the Upper East Side for more than three decades is closing permanently, the store's owners announced with a note taped to the coffee spot's window.

The local coffee chain is shuttering its location on First Avenue between East 81st and 82nd streets, according to the note. The store first opened 34 years ago, dating back to the year when Oren's Daily Roast was founded, according to the chain's website.

"We are so sorry to be leaving after 34 wonderful years serving you here. This is not the end. Please visit one of our other locations," the note in the coffee shop's window reads.

Oren's nearest remaining coffee shop is on Lexington Avenue near East 71st Street, according to the store's website. Fans of Oren's who don't feel like making the trip down to the 70s can opt to order beans by the pound from the coffee chain's website.

The note in Oren's window did not reveal why the location is closing. Businesses across New York City have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, which limited food and drink establishments to takeout and delivery beginning in March. New York City entered Phase 2 of its economic reopening Monday, which means restaurants can reopen outdoor dining at a reduced capacity.
