PHOTOS: Upper East Side Blanketed By Snowstorm
The Upper East Side awoke Monday to a fresh carpet of snow — although the closure of a popular sledding spot caused some disappointment.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The blizzard that swept New York City on Monday has not spared an inch of the Upper East Side, blanketing the neighborhood's streets, parks and sidewalks.
With school canceled, kids got the chance to venture out and enjoy more than a foot of snow that had fallen by Monday afternoon.
To one neighbor's chagrin, however, the popular sledding hill at James Cagney Place on East 91st Street was closed off by barricades, blocking would-be sledders. The Department of Transportation, which maintains the public plaza there, was not immediately able to explain the closure. (Update: a neighbor tells Patch that the barricades, which block a large hole, have been in place for years, and still allow for sledding.)
