Plans Filed for New 15-Story Upper East Side Luxury Apartment Building

The new 15-story building on East 79 Street will contain eight large apartment units.

Upper East Side, NY — Plans were filed Monday with the New York City Department of Buildings to build a new 15-story luxury apartment building on East 79th Street on the Upper East Side.

The new building will be located at 27 East 79 St., according to the filed documents. The building will rise 293 feet and contain 22,830 square feet of residential space packed into a narrow 24-foot lot. Initial building plans were disapproved by the Department of Buildings on July 26, but it's likely that the plans will be refiled.

With just eight planned apartment units, each apartment would average 2,853 feet per unit if they were all identical. Those are some big apartments, which means the building will likely cater to high-end tenants. The building also includes 1,425 square feet for commercial use. The building will contain four duplexes and a penthouse triplex, according to the building plans.

In April the building was purchased by Matthew Adell for $28 million, The Real Deal reported. The building is on the same block as former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's mansion, located at 7 E. 79th St., according to the Real Deal.

Millionaire developers were playing hot potato with the building before the construction plans were filed Monday. In March 2015, Orin Portnoy bought the building for $15.7 million before selling it to Adell this year, the Real Deal reported.
