Rapid Coronavirus Testing Center To Open On Roosevelt Island

A rapid COVID-19 testing center will open Wednesday on Roosevelt Island, promising results in as little as 15 minutes.

ROOSEVELT ISLAND, NY — A rapid COVID-19 testing center will open Wednesday on Roosevelt Island, promising results in as little as 15 minutes, officials announced Monday.

The site will open 9 a.m. Wednesday at 524 Main St., formerly a New York Public Library branch, according to the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation.

Tests will be free, with no insurance required, and residents can sign up in advance or simply walk in. Depending on volume, test results will be available between 15 minutes and 24 hours after being taken.

The site will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Pre-register for an appointment at rioc.ny.gov/556.

"Our mission has and continues to be providing innovative services that enhance the island’s community," Shelton J. Haynes, acting RIOC president, said in a statement.

The site will be run in partnership with the developer Hudson Companies and Swift Emergency Care testing. It is the first in a network of rapid testing sites that will open across the state, according to Haynes.

The city runs its own network of free rapid testing sites, but none are on Roosevelt Island.
