Teen Accidentally Shot By Friend On Upper East Side Rooftop

A teenager mistakenly shot his friend in the hand while they played with a gun Monday atop an Upper East Side building, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A teenager was shot in the hand by his friend Monday morning as they played with a gun on the roof of an Upper East Side building, police said.

The accident happened around 8:20 a.m. Monday, when the two 18-year-old males were on the roof of a five-story building on East 78th Street near Second Avenue.

As they played with the firearm, one of the teens mistakenly shot the other in the right hand, police said. The victim was hospitalized in non-life-threatening condition.

The other teen was taken into custody but no criminality was suspected, an NYPD spokesperson said. Police were still investigating the incident Monday morning.
