UES Doctor Killed In Long Island Crash

The man's wife suffered non-life threatening injuries.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – A doctor from the Upper East Side was killed and his wife hurt when their car veered off Sunrise Highway in Long Island, crashed into multiple parked cars and overturned, police said.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, Mark Lebowitz, 61, was driving westbound in Bohemia when his 2019 McLaren crossed the service road around 6:45 a.m. on July 22.

Lebowitz, of East 61st Street in Manhattan, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Diane Berson-Lebowitz, 61, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Mark Lebowitz was an ophthalmologist based in Brooklyn. He attended the Wheatley School in Roslyn Heights, according to a New York Times report on his marriage to Diane Berson in 1982.

Berson-Lebowitz is a dermatologist.
