UES Hospital Buys 2 Neighborhood Buildings

An Upper East Side hospital purchased two adjacent buildings this month, including one that until recently housed an elite nursery school.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side hospital purchased two adjacent buildings this month, including one that until recently housed a nursery school, records show.

The Hospital for Special Surgery paid $42 million to acquire 504-506 East 74th St., and $28 million for 508-510 East 74th St. Both deals were finalized on Jan. 11, according to city records.

The hospital plans to use the buildings for "administrative and clinical purposes," a spokesperson told Crain's New York, which first reported on the purchases.

For decades, 510 East 74th was the home of Epiphany Community Nursery school, a pricey institution that closed abruptly in January 2020 amid financial difficulties following a dispute between the founder and her ex-husband.

The Hospital for Special Surgery's main campus sits about three blocks south on East 70th Street, facing the East River.
