UES Luxury Development Sold Asbestos-Tainted Homes: Lawsuit
Six residents of the Carnegie Park apartment building on East 94th Street claim their condos have asbestos-containing materials.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Residents of an Upper East Side luxury apartment building claim their condos are tainted with asbestos-containing materials despite the fact that they were assured an asbestos-free home when buying the million dollar homes, according to reports.
Six condo owners at the Carnegie Park development on East 94th Street have sued Related Companies — the development firm that owns the building — for falsely claiming the condos were free of asbestos, the New York Post reported. The condos were sold for as much as $2.96 million after being converted from rentals in 2015, according to the Post.
The condo owners claim that Related Companies promised that the apartments were completely asbestos free when they were sold and say they have suffered psychological damage due to the presence of the toxic material in their homes, the Post reported.

A lawyer representing the homeowners told the Post they have "reason to believe [Related Companies] were fully aware of the fact that there was asbestos … at the time our clients went into contract."
Related Companies denied the claims made in the lawsuit in a statement sent to Patch.

“We believe the allegations set forth are false and without merit and we will be vigorously defending and confident we will prevail," a spokesperson for the firm said in a statement. "Carnegie Park is a first-class building and several of our senior executives and their families have also made it their home."
