UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An extravagant Upper East Side townhouse was listed for sale last week at $80 million — a sum that would break Manhattan's record for a single-family home if it is purchased at that price.

The seven-story, 15,000-square-foot townhouse at 973 5th Ave. sits near the corner of East 79th Street — right across from Central Park and adjacent to NYU's Institute for Fine Arts and the French Embassy's cultural services headquarters.

Its owner is David Leuschen, an energy investment company founder and former Goldman Sachs partner, who purchased the home in 2012 for $42 million, Bloomberg first reported.

Built in 1906 and designed by the famed firm McKim Meade and White, the mansion is "an intact masterpiece" that was recently renovated, according to the listing by Corcoran.

It boasts 16-foot ceilings with sweeping views of Central Park, grand entertaining rooms as well as smaller spaces, as well as a rooftop garden and patio offering 180-degree views of the park and the Midtown skyline.

The borough's current record for a single-family home sale is $77 million, for the 2019 purchase of an East 67th Street townhouse owned by billionaire Phillip Falcone, according to Bloomberg.
