UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A critically-acclaimed French restaurant on the Upper East Side that specialized in simply-prepared meats has shut down after six years, according to a notice on the eatery's website.

Rotisserie Georgette has cooked its last bird at its East 60th Street and Madison Avenue location, founder Georgette Farkas wrote in the letter. Farkas thanked the restaurant's customers, investors and staff who helped keep the place running for the past six years.

"I could not be more grateful to the dedicated members of my team whose talent, energy and professionalism shone brightly and made our restaurant an Upper East Side destination," Farkas wrote. "I thank our immensely loyal patrons who became very much a part of our restaurant family. You cannot imagine what a privilege it has been to get to know you and how much I will miss serving you."

The opening of Rotisserie Georgette earned a lot of press attention because of Farkas' 17-year tenure working with New York City culinary titan Daniel Boulud, according to Eater New York, which first reported the closure. Farkas, who began her career in the culinary industry as a chef, worked as Boulud's public relations and marketing director between 1995 and 2012.

With the attention came acclaim. Rotisserie Georgette nabbed favorable reviews from the New York Times' Pete Wells, according to the report. Forbes claimed the restaurant served the "best chicken in New York," and the eatery was praised by The New Yorker for "a strikingly sophisticated space, with a clientele to match."
