UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side townhouse once purchased by Billy Joel has hit the market for a lofty sum.

Joel bought the home in 1981 for his wife Elizabeth Weber, according to public real estate records. The home was then transferred to her name in 1991 and sold in 1997, according to records. Joel and Weber were divorcing at the time, and the house was purchased as a gift with the goal of winning her back, the New York Post first reported.
