Upper East Side Townhouse to be Demolished for 6-Story Apartment Complex
Plans have been filed to convert a 3-story brownstone into a 6-story building with 5 apartment units.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — In comes another apartment building, and out goes another townhouse on the Upper East Side.
Plans were filed with the city Department of Buildings to replace a three-story townhouse at 441 E. 87th St. with a six-story apartment complex that will contain five units. The new building will rise 60 feet high and contain 8,352 square feet of area zoned for residential use, according to the building plans.
The first two floors of the new building will be home to a duplex apartment, with access to a recreation room in the buildings cellar, according to the building plans. The rest of the building's floors will house a single apartment unit. With 8,352 square feet of space the average apartment unit will be 1,392 square feet, with the duplex being 2,784 square feet.

Plans to demolish the existing three-story townhouse were filed, and approved, in June. The existing building rises 21 feet high and contains two dwelling units, according to the demolition plans.
Timothy Li of TLI Architecture will design the new building, according to the plans. Plans list the property's owner as Man Wai Lau LLC.
