Woman Hit, Killed By Car While Crossing Madison Avenue: Police
A 64-year-old woman died Tuesday, nearly a month after she was hit by a FedEx delivery van as she crossed the Upper East Side avenue.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A woman has died about a month after she was hit by a delivery driver as she walked across Madison Avenue, police said Thursday.
The crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. on March 30, as the victim, a 64-year-old woman, was crossing Madison Avenue at East 76th Street, police said.
A 47-year-old woman was driving a FedEx delivery van eastward on East 76th Street and tried to turn left onto Madison when she hit the victim, who was walking in the crosswalk from the east to west side of the avenue.

Police identified the victim as Debbie Friedman, a resident of Edgewater, N.J.
After getting a 911 call, officers arrived and found Friedman lying in the street with severe head trauma, police said. She was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she died four weeks later on April 27.

The driver stayed at the scene and was not injured. Authorities have made no arrests and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
Since 2012, 27 pedestrians have been killed in crashes on the Upper East Side — not including last month's collision, according to Department of Transportation data.
