Century-Old Former Upper West Side Hotel to be Converted Into Condo Building
Developers have filed plans to convert the former Willard Hotel into a 52-unit condo complex.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An application proposing multiple alterations to a pre-war former hotel on the Upper West Side has been approved leading up to the building's conversion into a luxury condo complex.
The Landmarks Preservation Committee unanimously voted to approve an application to install a barrier-free access ramp, alter the areaway, modify the entrance steps, and install an entrance marquee at the former Williard Hotel located at 252 W. 76th St., located between Broadway and West End Avenue.
The building, which rises 11 stories, was built between 1902 and 1903, according to the LPC. This week developers announced that the building would be converted into a 52-unit condominium building, New York YIMBY reported.

While the building falls within the jurisdiction of the West End-Collegiate Historic District, the conversion has support from the LPC as well as neighborhood and preservation groups.
"[Historic Districts Council] wishes to commend the applicant on this very careful and respectful proposal that goes a long way toward restoring the building’s graceful details, while also serving as a model for other projects addressing accessibility,” said council member Barbara Zay, as reported by YIMBY.

The building is a listed property under real estate group Stellar Management, which describes the upcoming condo units as "timeless luxury residences." The management company boasts that "no detail was spared" while restoring the residences and that units will contain luxury features such as white oak hardwood floors, crown moldings and fully decked-out chefs kitchens. The building will also have amenities such as storage, a fitness center, a full-time doorman and a live-in super.
Stellar Management does not currently list any available units at the building.
