Teacher Stuns TikTok With Amazing $1,300 Rent-Controlled UWS Apt
Hattie Kolp posted an apartment tour of her 2-bedroom, pre-war, rent-controlled UWS home on TikTok. Its price is blowing people away.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — There is maybe nothing more valuable in the landscape of New York City real estate than the mystical rent-controlled apartment. Recently, Upper West Side resident Hattie Kolp posted a tour of her neighborhood home that tests any New Yorkers' ability to not get jealous.
It is 1,500 square feet, has two-bedrooms, one-bathroom, pre-war designs, and is rent-controlled at an incredibly affordable $1,300 a month.
For those who don't know, that designation means that the rent can very rarely be raised.

Rent-controlled apartments are incredibly difficult to come by in New York City, and Kolp took over the lease on her childhood apartment from her parents in 2018.
She has got to work redecorating the space in the years since and has started an Instagram account to share her at-home projects and renovations.

Unsurprisingly, the comments on Kolp's TikTok from other New Yorkers are maybe the best part of the whole thing.
“That’s really the secret to living in NYC," one commenter said. "Families be holding onto apartments like Draw 4 in UNO lol.”
While some of the comments accused Kolp of being gifted the apartment and not deserving the space, she emphasizes how "grateful" she is for the home and that she still has to pay the costs of repairs on the old building.
“Y’all: don’t be mad at her for getting housing for a reasonable price, be mad at the system that means so few people get this fortunate!" a different commenter said.
A different TikTok user kept it simple, "Never. Let. A. Rent. Controlled. Apartment. Go. Never."
