Upper West Side Only 33rd Best Neighborhood in NYC: Study

The folks at Niche apparently don't think too highly of the Upper West Side

A new study on the Best Neighborhoods in New York City has been released, and it's not kind to the Upper West Side.

The folks at Niche.com have made their ruling and residents of the Upper West Side who might get haughty and think they're comfortably in the Top 10, or even in the the Top 5, are in for a rude awakening: the Upper West Side comes in at No. 33. Yes, that's right, not even in the Top 20.

The UWS received A's for its schools, short commute times and outdoor activities — thanks to Central Park being its backyard. Where the UWS earned its low ranking was its steep real estate prices, the high cost of living and its scarcity of jobs.

For those scratching their heads and wondering what the 33rd-best neighborhood scored, and why, they can take a look at Niche's methodology for the categories they take into consideration when ranking a neighborhood.

The list was especially kind to Manhattan neighborhoods, including nine of the Top 10, and neighborhoods below 34th Street. At least Upper West Siders can take solace in knowing the Upper East Side was a barely better No. 28 overall.
