UWS Church Offloads Site For $158M, 19-Story Tower Planned

Real estate developer Kenneth Horn is behind the planned luxury condo building.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A landmarked Upper West Side church has finalized a deal with developer Kenneth Horn to sell the builder a neighborhood development site for $158 million, the developer's company announced.

Horn's Alchemy Properties will assume ownership of 378 West End Ave, located on the corner of West 78th Street, after buying the property from nearby West End Collegiate Church, the company said in a press release. Alchemy plans to construct a 19-story luxury condominium tower after combining the site with a new 12-story building at the adjacent 260-262 West 78th Street, which was previously home to the Collegiate School.

The completed development will front West 78th Street and construction is expected to begin this year, according to a press release. Alchemy is partnering with the South Korean company Daishin Securities on the development.

Horn's firm is behind developments such as the Woolworth Tower Residences, the NOMA in Midtown and Two Fifty West 81st Street — which is about 85 percent sold.

"We are excited to expand our work on the Upper West Side and build on the success of Two Fifty West 81ST," Horn said in a statement. "378 West End Avenue is a winning combination for buyers: a new building with a robust amenity offering located in a beautiful and historic district."
