UWS 'Micro Studio' With Dorm-Style Living Asks $1K Per Month

The latest in incredibly-small New York City apartments.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — With New York City's crackdown on short term rentals in full swing, owners of Single Room Occupancy units are getting creative with their marketing. Terms like "micro studio" are now used to rent out the cramped, but affordable, apartments with communal bathrooms and nonexistent kitchen space.

The latest listing to catch the internet's attention belongs to a single-room unit in an Upper West Side building called the "Hotel Riverside Studios," on West 71st Street near Riverside Boulevard. The tiny apartment comes complete with a mini-fridge and hot plate setup and rents for $1,000 per month.

If you're not planning to spend much time inside, it's actually not considering the neighborhood. But if you're a shut-in, don't expect a life of comfort. The unit consists of a room with about enough space for a twin bed and a dresser, a window with iron bars and a minuscule closet, according to photos from real estate listings.
