UWS School To Condo Conversion Launches Sales Starting At $7.9M

Condos built in a former Catholic school on West End Avenue are now up for sale starting at $7.9 million.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An brand new Upper West Side condominium building built in a former Catholic school has launched sales with an expected occupancy of early 2019, developers announced this week.

The new apartments start at $7.9 million for a four-bedroom unit, a spokesperson for developer Tamarkin Co. said. The condos are located in the converted 555 West End Ave., located near West 87th Street, in a building that originally served as a Catholic school.

"As a developer and architect, the process of transforming this architectural gem into a collection of spectacular, gracious-sized residences has been incredibly rewarding," Developer Cary Tamarkin said in a statement. "These homes are certain to resonate with buyers who appreciate authentic design and are looking for the experience of a private mansion but with the ease of condominium living in a prime Upper West Side location."

The building's previous use as a school presented architects with the opportunity to create an apartment complex featuring unique floor plans, developers said in a press release. None of the residence's 13 apartments are identical in layout, but they all feature elements such as entry foyers, walk-in pantries, and eat-in-kitchens.

Apartments in the building will range from three-to-five bedrooms, according to a press release. Building amenities include a 24-hour doorman, a fitness center, a recreation room, stroller valet, private individual storage rooms and cold storage and bike storage.

Sotheby's International Realty and Stribling Marketing Associates are handling the apartment sales.

"555 West End Avenue is a rare new condominium offering in a perfect Upper West Side location, surrounded by classic architecture, beautiful parks, restaurants and culture," Cathy Taub of Sotheby's International Realty said in a statement

The West End Avenue building was originally built in 1908 by architect William A. Boring. It's located in the Riverside-West End Historic District.
