Coronavirus: Long Island Little League Baseball Suspended

The national Little League organization has asked all baseball leagues to suspend their seasons amid fears over the spread of coronavirus

LONG ISLAND, NY — The Little League organization is recommending that divisions of Little League baseball, including those on Long Island suspend all activities through April 5, according to a media release from the organization. The recommendation comes amid concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.

"While each community is being affected differently by the coronavirus, the Little League International Board of Directors and staff feel that it is in the best interest of our volunteers and participant families to delay the implementation of the Little League season to begin no earlier April 6," the Little League news release said, adding that if leagues do decide to continue, then to seek the counsel of local health departments.

Leagues which have already begun are recommended to pause.

League officials say they will be updating their information on the Little League website and on their social media accounts at @LittleLeague.
