WANTAGH, NY — COVID-19 vaccination appointments scheduled for Monday at New York State-run sites — like Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh, SUNY Stony Brook, and the Westchester County Center — have been postponed for safety concerns related to Winter Storm Orlena.

Residents with appointments for the sites will receive an email or text message rescheduling their vaccination for later in the week, stated Secretary to the Governor Melissa Derosa in a news release. Other state-run vaccination sites that will be closed include Aqueduct Racetrack and the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan.

"We ask all New Yorkers to monitor the weather and stay off the roads tomorrow so our crews and first responders can safely do their jobs," DeRosa stated.

Drive-thru vaccinations were suspended at Jones Beach Friday and Saturday due to freezing temperatures and high winds resulting from the polar vortex affecting New York. Regular appointments, as well as those rescheduled were set to resume on Sunday. The state expected postponed appointments to be rescheduled through Wednesday, Feb. 3.

At the time, residents who could not make the new appointment as assigned were advised that they would be provided with a contact number to identify a different time that might work better for them.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Friday that residents can "rest assured that no appointments will be cancelled as a result" of the suspensions.
