Crimes Nearby: Shots Fired in North Bellmore, Stolen Basketball Hoop

Recent criminal activity reported in southeast Nassau County.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Bellmore

  • Five drain covers were thrown off the roof of Grand Avenue Middle School and struck two vehicles sometime between May 25-28.
  • A backpack was stolen on May 29 from the checkout counter of the Goodwill Store on Merrick Road.
  • The hood and side of a 2005 Chevrolet Caprice parked at Appelbees on Sunrise Highway was keyed on May 30.
  • Tires were slashed on a vehicle parked near the intersection of Newbridge Road and Oak Street on June 2.
  • Nassau County Police are investigating reports of gun shots fired on Olympia Road in North Bellmore on the morning of June 5. For more details, click here.

East Meadow

  • Sometime between May 30 and May 31, tires were removed from a vehicle parked on Marlboro Street. The car was left on cement blocks.
  • An unknown person entered Woodland Middle School through an open cafeteria window on June 1. No property was stolen or damaged.
  • Eric Engvaldsen, 48, of East Meadow was charged and arrested for public assistance fraud, according to the district attorney's office.
Massapequa
  • A basketball hoop was stolen on May 28 from a driveway on Richard Place.
  • A sign at Kingdom Hall Jehovahs Witnesses on 843 N. Broadway in North Massapequa was damaged sometime between May 28-31.
  • The window of a vehicle parked on Bucknell Drive was discovered broken on May 31 with a wallet removed from inside.

Merrick

  • Sometime between May 28 and May 29, an unknown suspect stole cash and jewelry from a car parked on Merrick Road.
  • On May 30, it was reported that the glass front door of Store Front on Sunrise Highway was broken.
