Deja Brew Coffee Shop Opens In Wantagh

Deja Brew seeks to serve a mean cup of Joe and offer a relaxed atmosphere for business meetings, study sessions or simply friend meet-ups.

WANTAGH, NY — Wantagh's newest coffee shop is open for business, serving up croissants, muffins, bagels, cookies, cannoli, gelato and, of course, a mean cup of Joe. The shop held its grand opening Wednesday, Nov. 20.

While the coffee shop may be new, the owner will be a familiar face to many in the community. Owner Rich Polo was born in Wantagh and graduated in 2005from Wantagh High School, where he played football and lacrosse.

He chose to open the shop on Park Avenue because of his close ties to the community. Polo is also in the real estate business, working for a company next door to the new shop, and his father founded both a local youth football organization and Endzone Sports, a Seaford company that outfits athletes with equipment.

Polo loves business and coffee, and decided to combine the two when he saw an ideal location was available that had a nice storefront and was close to the train station.

"So I said, 'You know what? Let's take a shot at it," he told Patch.

Polo wanted to create a place where people could hold business meetings, study for school or simply have comfortable environment to meet up with friends.

"It's a relaxed social setting," he said.

The coffee shop offers free Wi-Fi and has partnered with popular Syosset roasters Mongo's Coffee to serve a tasty brew — something Polo is very familiar with.

"Coffee's my thing," he said. "I wake up and drink a cup every morning to get that jolt."

Those who stop in are also encouraged to bring in a toy. Polo's brother, Nick, is a survivor of brain cancer and his family launched a foundation to help others families of children with cancer.

This year, the coffee shop is serving as the base for the toy drive.
