WANTAGH, NY — Drive-thru vaccinations at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh have been suspended Friday and Saturday at Jones Beach State Park due to freezing temperatures and high winds resulting from the polar vortex affecting New York.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday afternoon that there are safety concerns over the site, which is close to the ocean and features open-air tents. His office said that no appointment will be cancelled, only rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 31 through Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Anyone with an appointment on those days will notified of the suspension in an e-mail and a text message and appointments will be rescheduled in alignment with the original appointment time, according to Cuomo’s office. Residents who cannot make the new appointment as assigned will be provided with a contact number to identify a different time that may work better for them.
