Flash Flood Warning in Effect, Stay Off The Roads, NWS Says

Some areas could see 2-4 inches of rain through the mid-afternoon.

The National Weather Service has now issued a flash flood warning for Nassau County and western Suffolk County.

The advisory was issued at 11:05 a.m. Thursday and is in effect until 2 p.m.

  • ...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 200 PM EDT FOR SOUTHEASTERN NASSAU AND WESTERN SUFFOLK COUNTIES... AT 1220 PM EDT...TORRENTIAL RAIN WAS OVER WESTERN SUFFOLK WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN OVER NASSAU COUNTY. SOME ROADS ACROSS SOUTHEAST NASSAU AND WESTERN SUFFOLK COUNTY ARE FLOODED. STAY OFF AREA ROADWAYS AND DELAY ALL TRAVEL PLANS FOR ANOTHER HOUR OR SO TO ALLOW THE FLOODING TO SUBSIDE. THE RAIN WILL GRADUALLY TAPPER OFF FROM SOUTH TO NORTH STARTING AROUND 1 PM. RAIN SHOULD BE OVER TEMPORARILY BY MID AFTERNOON. ADDITIONAL RAIN IS FORECAST TO LATER THIS EVENING. THE AREA FROM LONG BEACH TO THE 110 CORRIDOR UP TO NORTHPORT WILL WILL SEE 2 TO 4 INCHES OF TOTAL RAINFALL BEFORE THE RAIN ENDS BY MID AFTERNOON.

  • Today- Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 78. East wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Tonight- Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 66. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Friday- A chance of showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Light and variable wind.
