Gatsby On The Ocean Opens At Jones Beach
The new restaurant is located in the revitalized West Bathhouse, and brings 1930s charm to the beach.

Following a revitalization of the former Marine Dining Room at the West Bathhouse at Jones Beach, Gatsby on the Ocean has emerged and celebrated its official grand opening last week with a ribbon-cutting on the East Patio.
Joe Vitrano, J&B Restaurant Partners president; Dawn Petite, chief operating officer; and officials of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation were on hand to welcome attendees and provide a first look at the second-floor venue with unsurpassed views of the Atlantic Ocean. Among the dignitaries at the ribbon cutting were Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Suffolk County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Commissioner Philip A. Berdolt.
“We are thrilled to bring the state’s vision to life for this exquisite property with Gatsby on the Ocean,” said Vitrano. “Our concept was carefully curated to highlight the 1930s aesthetic while offering an exceptional culinary and social experience. We look forward to welcoming Long Islanders to this premier oceanfront destination, whether it’s for a casual lunch, dinner or a grand wedding or private event.”

Originally opened in 1931, the West Bathhouse is steeped in Robert Moses-era history, which has been incorporated into the design of Gatsby on the Ocean. Complete with art deco touches and furnishings reminiscent of a bygone time period, the 5,500 square-foot interior seats up to 260 people, with exterior patios offering breathtaking views for 75 guests. Gatsby on the Ocean also features a bridal suite and groom’s lounge, which may serve as a private dining or event locale for up to 20 attendees. Adding to the historical charm are acknowledgements of the venue’s previous use — the bridal suite once served as Robert Moses’ personal office and the groom’s lounge was his conference room.
The menu at Gatsby features dishes prepared in a new American culinary style. On Thursdays, guests can enjoy an empire state dining experience via the New York State of Mind menu, which highlights fresh, local ingredients. In addition, Gatsby has a wine list with a selection from New York State wineries and its own craft beer, Gatsby Golden Ale, brewed by Patchogue Beer Project. The kitchen at Gatsby is led by Andrew Helliwell, a classically trained executive chef, formerly of The Mansions at Glen Cove, who blends his deep culinary experience in restaurant and catering functions with eclectic menu creation.
