Healthy Adults Can Give At Wantagh Library Blood Drive

Anyone 16 and older is eligible to donate on May 22.

WANTAGH, NY — The Wantagh Public Library is doing more than lending books. On May 22, it is lending a hand to save lives. The library plans to hold a blood drive on Saturday, May 22 to assist area hospitals.

Each person's blood can help up to three people, the library said on its website.

Those aged 17 through 75 are welcome to donate blood. The only stipulations are having a minimum weight of 110 pounds and no new tattoos for the past year.

For everyone else, prior to showing up, they should drink fluids and have eaten well with a low-fat diet. A photo ID with a signature or photo is required.

People looking to donate at age 16 are eligible with parental permission. Residents who are older than 75 years of age would need to show a doctor's note for approval.

The library accepts walkups but prefers people to schedule appointments in advance at 1-800-933-BLOOD. It's expected to run from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
