Here's How Much Money Wantagh, Seaford Candidates Raised In 2020

WANTAGH, NY — Candidates who appeared on Wantagh and Seaford ballots in 2020 raised thousands of dollars in the weeks and months leading up to Election Day. That includes candidates in state Assembly, Senate and U.S. Congress races.

Using the latest publicly available data from the New York State Board of Elections, Patch compiled a list of how much money each candidate raised — and spent — in 2020. Here's what we found.

Assembly District 14

As of Oct. 19, the campaign for incumbent Republican New York state Assemblyman Dave McDonough had raised about twice as much money than Democratic challenger Kevin Gorman.

McDonough held a comfortable lead in the race with about 38,000 votes to Gorman's roughly 21,000. Thousands of absentee ballots have not been counted in the race.

Gorman for Assembly

  • Total contributions: $6,287
  • Total expenses: $6,151

Senate District 6

As of Oct. 19, incumbent Democratic state Sen. Kevin Thomas' campaign had raised far more money than Republican challenger Dennis Dunne Sr.

Dunne held a comfortable lead in the race with about 65,000 votes to Thomas' roughly 57,000. Thousands of absentee ballots have not been counted in the race.

Senate District 8

As of Oct. 19, the campaign for incumbent Democratic state Sen. John Brooks, who is running unopposed, had raised about $115,000.

2nd Congressional District

As of June 30, Democrat Jackie Gordon's campaign had raised far more money than Republican opponent Andrew Garbarino.

But that money so far hasn't translated into results. Gordon trailed Garbarino by a large margin Thursday with about 111,000 votes to Garbarino's roughly 157,000. Thousands of absentee ballots have yet to be counted.

4th Congressional District

As of June. 30, Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice's campaign had raised far more money than Republican opponent Douglas Tuman.

So far, that investment seems to have paid off. Rice led Tuman by a slim margin Thursday with about 147,000 votes to Tuman's roughly 134,000. Thousands of absentee ballots have yet to be counted.

President

As of Oct. 14, former Vice President Joe Biden had raised far more money than President Donald Trump.

As of Thursday, Biden led Trump in the popular vote with 72.4 million to Trump's 68.9 million. Numerous votes remained uncounted nationwide.
