Nassau Cops Release Footage Of Alleged Wantagh Porch Pirate

The man can be seen walking up to a Mermaid Avenue home and then walking off with two packages, before driving away in dark sedan.

WANTAGH, NY — Nassau County police have released security surveillance footage of an alleged porch pirate who took two packages from outside of a Wantagh home.

Detectives said that a “male subject” was caught on a security footage walking up to a home on Mermaid Avenue and removed packages from the front stoop just before 2 p.m. on April 2. He drove away in a dark colored four-door sedan, and headed northbound on Mermaid Avenue at the intersection of Bayport Court, police said.

In the surveillance video, the subject, who was wearing a dark hoodie and pants, can be seen in the video nonchalantly walking up to the home and removing the packages.

Detectives are requesting anyone with information about the theft to contact the 7th Squad at 516-573-6753, or Nassau County Crime Stoppers, a confidential police hotline, at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
